Southwest Airlines Baggage Policy

If you’re flying with Southwest Airlines, you have the opportunity to check one bag free of charge. However, if you’re traveling with more than one bag, or simply pack your carry-on poorly, you could find yourself paying excess baggage fees on top of your airfare price. Avoid this by taking advantage of these Southwest airlines baggage policy hacks so that you can travel stress-free and wallet-full!

Compensatory Upgrades Southwest Airlines

Customers with Compensatory Upgrades can check their upgrade status online. As an alternative, they can contact SW Airlines Customer Service contact number at (888) 720-1433. When rebooking, or checking in within 24 hours of a flight departure, call 800 I FLY SWA. If customers choose to check in without rebooking, Southwest flights does not guarantee that upgrades will be available. This policy applies only when traveling on a ticket originally issued through Southwest Airlines and is not available for travel on tickets booked through other carriers. This applies both domestically and internationally.

Complimentary Upgrades Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines doesn’t allow any free carry-on baggage SW Flights, but if you check a bag, you can upgrade your smaller carry-on (that fits under your seat) for no extra charge. Or if you want, you can just bring your large carry-on and they won’t charge you more either! Southwest seat upgrade charges $20 for a first checked bag and $35 for a second checked bag. As long as you aren’t going completely overboard with what that 2nd piece of luggage can hold (50 lbs max), paying only $35 to bring on an extra suitcase is not only a lot cheaper than other airlines but it also helps save time in baggage claim too.

Military/Veteran Travel Benefits Southwest Airlines

Did you know that military personnel and veterans receive discounted airfare through a number of discount airlines? Southwest flights was just one of them. If you are a veteran or currently enlisted in any branch of military service, call Southwest customer service phone number at (888) 720-1433 to see if your status will get you some money off your next ticket. Below is more information about how exactly military personnel and veterans can take advantage of discounted airfares on Southwest airlines

Companion Pass

Are you flying Southwest a lot? If so, it's worth picking up a companion pass. You can earn 110% of your flight points back if you fly 100 qualifying one-way flights or spend $12,000 on airfare using your Rapid Rewards account within a calendar year. This means that spending $12,000 on airfare earns you two passes instead of one—one for yourself and one for a companion. That's because you get 5,000 points for every dollar spent on tickets in addition to any points earned through flights.

AARP/Senior Discounts at SW Airlines

There are a number of discounts available for members of AARP, including discounts on travel, insurance and financial services. Make sure you show your AARP membership card when booking airfare; Southwest airlines flights is one of many airlines that offer special rates for AARP members. You can also check out these other ways to save money on airfare if you're not eligible for an AARP discount.

Rental Car Discounts

If you’re driving, it might be worth looking into rentals. If you plan on renting from Enterprise or Avis in particular, take a look at their discount codes for National Car Rental through them. Not only will you save money on your rental, but you’ll also get more miles added onto your Southwest frequent flyer account as well. (In case you were curious, I don’t receive any compensation from these companies).
